How to Go to Macau from Hong Kong by TurboJet Ferry

When most of us visit Hong Kong, we all have this idea in mind to visit Macau. But not everyone goes due to lack of time, costs, and the overwhelming planning stage on how to go. And I can agree on so many levels, especially with the planning stage. So if you're planning to visit Macau from Hong Kong by ferry, you came to the right site! Read further to know how to go from Hong Kong to Macau by Turbojet Ferry!

Between Hong Kong and Macau, there are only two ferry operators, Cotai Water Jet and TurboJet. I don't have any comparison between the two and my experience is only with TurboJet.

Directions:

First things first, directions. I will try my best as I've had my fair share of getting lost when I was looking for the Ferry Terminal going to Macau.

HONG KONG TO Macau

Please take note that there are (2) Embarkation/Ferry Terminals in Hong Kong (apart from the one in the airport). Make sure that the embarkation terminal you are selecting is among them. The two terminals are:

• Kowloon or commonly called as China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui
• Hong Kong Island (Sheung Wan) or commonly called as Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheun Tak Centre

I admit that I was too consumed with my hiking in Hong Kong Trail that I missed this point. As mentioned in my Ngong Ping 360 post, I stayed near Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station. Yet I found myself lost in Central looking for the terminal. .

Anyway, the lesson was learned and now giving you a direction (as clear as possible).

• If you want to board at Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal, take the train on Tsuen Wan Line towards Central. Change the train line to Island Line towards Sheung Wan which is the next stop and take the Exit D.
• If you want to board at China Ferry Terminal, simply take the train to Tsim Sha Tsui. Go to Exit A1 and from there, walk for about 5-10 minutes to reach the terminal.

Once you're inside the terminal, follow the signage and purchase your ticket/show your Klook ticket (if you purchased online). Go straight to the immigration counter, fill out an entry form (if applicable) and wait at the waiting hall to board the ferry.

Most likely your ticket will bring you to Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal which is a good thing. Double check your ticket in case it says Taipa Ferry Terminal. If your ticket says Macau, then relax and you will disembark at the terminal with lots of transportation options outside.

Macau to Hong Kong

If you're done for the day(s), simply go back to the same terminal in Macau (Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal). Do the same thing all over again (show your ticket, finish the immigration process, and wait at the waiting hall to board the ferry.

TURBOJET Ferry Ride

Update as of January 2022: As per TurboJet's website, sailing between Hong Kong and Macau is currently suspended until further notice.

TurboJet Ferry Ticket & Cost

While sailing is still suspended until further notice, I will still share on where to book the tickets and the cost (when I bought it) for your reference.

Instead of buying a ticket in the terminal, I booked my ticket from Klook. It is currently unavailable right now but you can still check the details from here.

Ticket costs may vary also on some factors such as:

• Directions: One Way or Round Trip
• Sailing Day: Weekday or Weekend
• Type of Ticket: Fixed Day and Time or Fixed Day and Open Time (meaning you can use it whenever you want to on a specific day)

My ferry ticket cost me AED 135 (around US$36) for a weekday round trip ticket with fixed date and open time at the time of my booking.

HONG KONG TO MACAU BY Ferry Experience

As unfortunate as it is, I don't have any photos from the TurboJet Ferry as of writing. My laptop (including the hard drive) broke down last 2020 and I don't have a proper back up on all my photos. So bear with me in this post without any photos at all. I will update this post in the future when I get the chance to ride on it again and take new photos.

Anyhow, going back to the topic, let me discuss my Ferry Experience. I am no expert in Ferries nor I don't have any comparison but I would say that the ferry ride is okay. There are ample amount of seats (superior and VIP seats too), washrooms, Wi-Fi, audio-visual entertainment facility (not the same in planes) and the ferry is fully airconditioned.

Overall, it's a good way to go to Macau and cheaper compared to taking a flight. And while it's not as cheap as taking the bus, it's faster. So if you're planning to visit Macau and you are time & budget constrained, I urge you to take the ferry using my guide and directions above.
